Fabian Koss Named One of Ten "Men of Style" by Washington
Life Magazine
Fabian Koss is the youth development coordinator for the Inter-American
Development Bank. He founded the Many Hats Institute in 1999,
a non-profit, non- governmental organization dedicated to improving
conditions for children and youth worldwide. The name refers to
the many skills and interests that people possess, and the organizations
goal is to utilize peoples diverse hats to empower
youth and provide them with the tools to become leaders in their
communities and in their nations.
Among Many Hats accomplishments: In May 2002, the Latin
American Ambassadors Committee organized a concert featuring Placido
Domingo to benefit the victims of the earthquakes in El Salvador,
raising over $50,000. In October 2002, together with the Embassy
of, Many Hats helped organize a polo match to assist Graham Childrens
Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina in rebuilding its emergency-
care ward. In December 2002, it provided matching funds ($10,000)
for all ticket sales of the Saks Jandel Holiday Fashion Show to
the Rincones Dance Companys Ninas Kids Fund, which
supports community outreach programs for children.
Reach Your Peak, which Koss co-founded with friend
Michael Davis, began as a subset of the Many Hats Institute two
years ago,
but quickly took on a life of its own. The organization works
with many area schools and organizations, including the D.C. Police
Boys & Girls Club, Bell Multicultural High School, Cardozo
High School and the McLean School of Maryland. Activities related
to goal setting, education, fundraising, and volunteer service
are all aimed at turning dreams into actions. Participating schools
have access to the Reach Your Peak curriculum and planning guide,
a series of mapped out lessons and sample projects, as well as
online tools.
Fabian Koss was born in Argentina and moved to New York when
he was 2 years old. In the little free time that he has, he enjoys
playing polo at the Potomac Country Club.
